Are you suffering from hallux valgus (also known as bunion, which is a structural deformity of the bones and the joint between the foot and big toe)? It is a condition not only affects the appearance and shoes-wearing but also brings discomfort and pain to you. This disease aggravates gradually. The symptoms include irritated skin around the bunion, pain when walking, joint redness and pain, and possible shift of the big toe toward the other toes. Patients are suggested to have a surgery to improve this situation. A successful correction of hallux valgus will improve the arches of the foot, eliminate pain and narrow the forefoot. When the wounds caused in the surgery are healed, there would be no trace of incisions.

This minimally invasive surgery (the incision is about 1 cm) is usually carried out painlessly under local anesthesia and by using the advanced imported surgical micro-power systems. In addition to the removal of the osteophyma, according to the hallux valgus angle and the degree of bone deformity, a corrective osteotomy will be conducted in order to prevent postoperative relapse. Internal fixation isn’t needed in this operation so patients wouldn’t go to hospital again to take out nails. Because the surgery is done under local anesthesia, so patients can walk by the guidance of a doctor.

There is no need for hospitalization after the operation but it is advised to have a break for a week. Patients who don’t live in the local can return to their hometowns immediately. Because the forepart of the foot front is fixed with dressing, patients should wear large and loose flat shoes for a month. During this period, it might be inconvenient to wear shoes. A month later patient can remove the dressing and wear ordinary flat shoes. And three months later, everything will be fine. The swelling time for older people will be a little longer than others.
